Artist's Description
This photo was taken at the famous carousel at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk in California. The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk's Looff Carousel is a National Historic Landmark. The hand-carved merry-go-round has been operating since 1911. It is also one of only a handful of carousels in the world still featuring a working ring dispenser. Riders on outside horses can grab rings from a dispenser (shown in photo) as they spin and then toss them into the large clown's gaping mouth and get rewarded by bells and flashing lights.
